Design Solutions and Decisions
Solution:
Introduced a clear three-panel layout: left for source upload, center for chat, and right for agent access and suggested questions.
Why?
This structure reduces friction for first-time users by guiding them step-by-step, uploading content, chatting, and browse prompts an all in one view.

Solution:
When an AI Agent is selected, it streamlines the user’s workflow by anchoring attention on the ongoing query and response thread. The left panel supports continuity by preserving relevant sources, while the right panel offers quick toggles to switch between agents and reference suggested questions. This structure ensures users always have contextual awareness of the task at hand, while remaining a click away from adjacent insights.
Why?
The conversational interface at the center allows reps to engage naturally with the agent, while elements like tagged agents, visual feedback, and accessible source links build trust and usability. The goal was to reduce friction, surface relevant guidance faster, and help reps make confident decisions without toggling across multiple tools.

Solution:
A dual-action control: Save in My Agent and Publish Agent, which appears dynamically when a user modifies an existing agent. This lets users personalize the agent with tailored prompts, questions, and sources, and then save or publish it as their own for repeated use. It creates a clear transition from using a shared template to building a custom AI experience.
Why?
This approach empowers users to adapt agents to their workflow while preserving the original template structure. By surfacing the save/publish option only after edits, the design stays clutter-free and purposeful. It supports ownership, repeatability, and knowledge sharing within sales teams, ensuring that valuable, modified agents can be reused or scaled across the org.

The Launch
Ask Buddy was finally relaunched, and we started to get more user feedback. Sales reps quickly embraced the tool, appreciating how it streamlined their workflows and provided actionable insights. I’ve been constantly tweaking and improving Ask Buddy based on user feedback, making it easier for sales teams to close deals faster and engage more effectively with every update.

Final Designs
Impact 🚀
The second version of the Ask Buddy experience brought meaningful improvements across user engagement, efficiency, and product adoption. From streamlining the layout to enabling prompt customization and agent saving, each design decision was aimed at reducing friction and supporting real sales workflows. These enhancements empowered reps to move faster, reuse high-performing resources, and collaborate more effectively. Overall, the product became more intuitive, scalable, and aligned with the day-to-day needs of sales teams, resulting in higher adoption and more consistent usage across the board.

Learnings
One key takeaway from this project was the importance of prioritization. With so many possible features, it was essential to focus on core user needs and business objectives. By prioritizing the most impactful elements, I ensured that the redesigned Ask Buddy interface was both effective and aligned with the primary jobs-to-be-done, rather than being cluttered with low-value additions.
